What We Did
Bashir Fistula Foundation, a young non-governmental organization manages to thrive through its mandates despite recurrent financial challenges it faces. An outreach was however carried out in January 2020 as a part of its scheduled recurrent sustenance programs as a means to fulfill the “Sustenance” part of its mandate.
Logistics prior to this visit include a needs assessment study via phone call, market survey, purchase and delivery of items. Information gathered from the affiliate hospital showed gross inadequacy of food items and other daily upkeep materials at the hospital with little support from government. The Implementation of this project went through series of processes such as budget preparation and approval, before it could be achieved.
Means of transport of the budgeted materials proved to be a major challenge prior to the project, where materials had to be purchased on the project delivery date. Almost #160,000 was spent on this project and the relief materials were successfully delivered to HGSGH with the presence of five members of our team and the assistance of key staff of the hospital.
At the end of this project, we were able to fulfill our target. The Matron, Hajiya Fatima Umar welcomed and appreciated our visit, with much gratitude and happiness radiating from her face, she thanked Bashir Fistula Foundation on behalf of the hospital and the beneficiaries.
Bashir Fistula Foundation remains committed and dedicated to our quest to end Fistula while we continue to engage with our mandate of awareness, sustenance and rehabilitation. However, being a relatively new start-up, there are limits on our sustenance and proposed rehabilitation as parts of our mandate. Awareness campaigns are however being relentlessly reinforced on social media platforms, which can be properly implemented to reach wider audiences with paid adverts.
